HealthScreen vs Everlab: Comparing Health Check Services in Australia
Overview
Historically, routine health checks for the average Australian were basic, standard assessments, primarily designed to address immediate concerns or fulfill annual requirements. These check-ups rarely went beyond surface-level evaluations, focusing on treating existing conditions rather than preventing future ones. However, with the rise of preventative medicine and advancements in technology, the landscape of health checks has shifted. Today’s modern health evaluations are more thorough, often referred to as a preventative health check, emphasising early detection, personalised insights, and proactive care.
In this article we will review and compare two health check providers in Australia, HealthScreen and Everlab.
What is a Health Check?
A health check, also known as a health screening or medical check-up, is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s overall health and wellbeing. It involves a series of tests, examinations, and evaluations designed to identify potential health risks and detect any underlying medical conditions. Health checks can be tailored to an individual’s specific needs, age, and health status, and are usually performed by a healthcare professional. These assessments often include blood tests, medical imaging, genetic testing, and physical exams, providing a thorough overview of one’s health.
Benefits of Regular Health Checks
Regular health checks offer numerous benefits that can significantly impact your long-term health and wellbeing. Some of the key advantages include:
- Early Detection and Prevention: Identifying diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease at an early stage can lead to more effective treatment and better outcomes.
- Identification of Risk Factors: Health checks can uncover risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking, allowing for timely interventions.
- Personalised Health Advice: Receive tailored guidance on lifestyle changes that can improve your health, such as diet, exercise, and stress management.
- Management of Chronic Conditions: Regular monitoring and management of chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes can prevent complications and improve quality of life.

While both HealthScreen and Everlab offer a variety of essential blood tests, Everlab provides a slightly more comprehensive suite of tests. This stems from their preventative approach, focusing on identifying key health trends over time rather than simply providing a snapshot of your current health today.
Physical Assessment & Medical History
HealthScreen
A HealthScreen health check includes a physical exam of your body and a melanoma check, but does not assess your physical capabilities i.e. strength, endurance, stability etc.
- ECG
- Skin check
Everlab
Everlab on the other hand provides a comprehensive physical assessment with a greater focus on your longevity. Testing indexes on your strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness, including:
- VO2 Max
- Strength testing using VALD technology
- Stability assessment addressing osteoporosis risk factors
- Lung Function Test
- ECG
- Skin check - run by a partner provider
With a primary focus on longevity, Everlab’s physical assessment targets your high-risk areas, emphasising the detection of risks associated with the top five chronic diseases.
DEXA & Body Composition Scan
Everlab's check includes a DEXA body composition and bone density scan conducted at their clinic.
HealthScreen offers body composition analysis scans only, and is an add on cost of $120.
Lifestyle and Nutrition Testing
Diet and lifestyle factors such as stress and sleep are often the leading cause of your medical risks and are pivotal elements of an effective health check. Both HealthScreen and Everlab conduct nutritional assessments to identify any major issues. However, HealthScreen’s nutritional assessment is an add-on for $200, whereas Everlab’s review is included within the main protocol. Everlab’s nutritional assessment also includes a comprehensive food diary and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).
Everlab combines all your diagnostics, personal or family history, and past health records to make comprehensive assessments about your health. The main difference between the two nutritional and lifestyle assessments is how the information is used with all the other diagnostics. HealthScreen focuses on your health today and looks at all your information at 2 points in time (initial and optional follow-up consultations). Everlab on the other hand combines all your diagnostics, family history and past health records to make assessments about not only your health today, but what you may be at risk of in the future. The lifestyle and nutritional assessment is one component that feeds into this.
